Tell a story in four boxes
You will tell a story in four pictures. Each box has limited room, so choosing which moment to show is harder than drawing every action in full.

The rule
Four boxes. No more.
How to do it
- Draw four empty boxes on the page.
- Choose a fictional character and a small problem.
- Draw the starting situation in the first box.
- Show one change in each of the middle two boxes.
- Draw the result or surprise in the last box.
- Ask a partner to retell the story from the four pictures.
Why it works
A sequence gives a reader information in an order. Each panel can show a selected moment while the reader infers what happened between moments. The first panel can establish the character and situation; later panels add changes and consequences. A final surprise works best when earlier details make it understandable. There is no single compulsory plot for a four-panel story, but a partner’s retelling can reveal whether an important link was missing from the pictures.

Before you start
Use fictional characters and leave personal names or identifying details out. The retelling is a check of communication rather than a grade for drawing skill. Encourage revision of one useful panel. Ask at dinner: “Which picture gave the reader the information they needed to understand your ending?”

Does the result need to look polished?
No. Begin with a small attempt and keep the first version so you can explain a change. The stated time is an estimate, and a careful observation or unfinished draft can still give you something useful to discuss.
How can a helper support without taking over?
Prepare the space and the listed items, then describe your next choice. Let the rule guide the attempt instead of correcting every line or deciding the finished design for them.
Do we have to upload the work?
No. Showing it at home is enough. Online sharing remains optional and follows the privacy line above.
