You will explain one fact and ask someone to repeat its meaning. A clear retelling tests communication, but agreement alone does not prove the original fact is true.

- Paper

How to do it
- Choose one ordinary fact you learned this week.
- Check its wording and source with a helper.
- Explain it in your own words.
- Use a simple drawing or example if helpful.
- Ask the helper to repeat the meaning they understood.
- Compare that retelling with the checked fact and revise any unclear part.
Why it works
Explaining asks you to organise an idea and connect its parts rather than merely repeat a phrase. A listener’s retelling can show whether your explanation communicated the intended meaning. That is a check of communication, not independent evidence that the claim is correct. Checking the source separately addresses the truth of the fact. Teaching can reveal gaps in understanding, but it is not automatically the best learning method for every task or a guarantee that the speaker has no remaining misconceptions.

- Name one limit to what the fact establishes.
- Describe separately how you checked truth and how you checked understanding.

Before you start
Choose a low-stakes science or everyday fact with a source you can inspect. Help with uncertainty instead of rewarding confidence alone. A helper can deliberately ask for clarification, then give an honest retelling. Ask at dinner: “Which part became clearer after you heard what your listener had understood?”
